February 2019 Projects

This month I have been working on the purple underdress for the occasion dress I'm planning, I still haven't decided what pattern to use for my top layer though.

As I had made the pattern last month all I had to do was cut out the purple fabric and put it together. Everything went together pretty easily, the skirt worked out really nicely. I had a couple of alterations to make, the point where the centre of the skirt front joins the bodice needed fiddling with and I needed to take in the side seam as I've lost weight since I first made the original pattern. I have edged all the inside seams and the bottom of the skirt but I haven't finished the straps or around the bodice yet. It fits really nicely and looks better than I had expected.

As all my trousers are too big, I have been looking for some new ones, on my first shopping trip the other week I found nothing I liked so I bought some fabric. I found a trouser pattern in my stash and as it was for a wide legged pair I made a toile and chopped it about to taper the legs. I made a pattern from the toile and cut my fabric, managing to miss the bit that covers the fly zip, so annoying. I also should have cut all the bits separately to get the lines going the right way. I put in all the pleats and darts then stitched the legs together. I tried them on and pinned the fly, because the line is not straight down the front of one of the legs it looks oddly twisted, I didn't have enough fabric to re-cut that bit so I'll just have to live with it. I added a zip and the waistband and stitched in press studs for a fastening, I hate doing buttonholes, I'm aware I'm not going to get any better at them unless I do some but I just hate them. I hemmed the legs and my trousers were done. They could certainly have been better, I'm not entirely happy with them but they are wearable and look pretty cool with a long enough top to cover the zip.

Actually looking at the photos, the legs look less weird. I made the trousers slightly snug as I'm losing weight at the moment, but I wore them for a whole day at work and they were really comfy.

I don't currently have any plans for March, though I did get a couple of patterns from a charity shop today that might work with some fabric I have knocking about.
